About Adam

Many people know Adam Chowning, but they don't always know everything he's done. He's quiet about his accomplishments but they are many. He's won and placed in guitar and banjo contests all over the Southeast and has toured internationally. But he's not just a great player. Adam is a well-respected luthier and vintage guitar expert.

As an educator, Adam is known as one of the most versatile and well-rounded teachers in Middle Tennessee. He teaches all styles of acoustic and electric guitar and many of his students are award-winning and professional players. In addition to his home lesson studio, Adam also teaches lessons to people all over the world via Skype.

Adam's latest venture is an exclusive, semi-annual flatpicking camp just north of Nashville, which features instructors like Bryan Sutton, Kenny Smith, and Brad Davis. He has (along with his wife Megan) also branched out to directing mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and other acoustic music camps that take place all through the year. In 2018, they received the International Bluegrass Music Award for Industry Involvement for their work educating people about bluegrass and old-time music. You can find out more about those camps at

Lessons with Adam

I'm so happy to be able to offer lessons to acoustic and electric guitar players around the world via Skype.  These days, 75% of my students are learning through Skype from their living rooms, their grandparents' houses, or during a layover at the airport. Skype is free to download to your computer and the only other thing you need is a camera which usually comes already loaded in your computer. If not, one can be purchased for less than $40 and plugged right in. I have been teaching this way for several years and have all the systems in place to make sure you never know the difference between Skype lessons and the old-fashioned kind. Except of course, the overwhelming convenience and ease of learning online... Give it a try! And in case you're wondering, I specialize in teaching bluegrass flatpickers who are wanting to take their playing to the next level but I happily teach all levels of rock, country, and blues. Just below are the payment options and descriptions of how the monthly and individual lessons work. Check it out and let's get started! (Before purchasing lessons, please read the lesson policy linked below. It covers everything you need to know about taking lessons from me, including cancellation policies.
